International Spine Institute

At Omega Hospital we are committed to providing our patients with the best quality surgical care available. In an effort to do so, we have connected with Dr. Marco Rodriguez to introduce alternative treatment options for patients experiencing pain due to spinal injuries and the pain from normal wear and tear of everyday life.

Dr. Rodriguez’s approach to spinal treatment focuses on offering the least invasive procedure options providing for faster recovery times for patients. This approach to spinal surgery gives patients the ability to return to work, play and a pain-free lifestyle quicker than traditional spine surgeries. Dr. Rodriguez's least invasive procedures at Omega Hospital are an excellent alternative to failed pain management and spinal fusion.

Least Invasive Procedures

Least Invasive Procedures treat painful spine conditions with less invasive techniques before ever considering traditional spine surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery (MIS). Dr. Rodriguez's spine procedures, such as endoscopic rhizotomy, are less invasive than MIS and reduces recovery time. Approaching the spine with endoscopic procedures can relieve the pain and reduce collateral damage and tissue disruption that MIS and traditional spine surgery can cause.

Dr. Rodriguez and Omega Hospital have partnered to give our patients an excellent alternative to spine surgery with the least invasive procedures. Although, we do offer patients MIS surgery when appropriate, most patients do very well without more invasive spine surgery or spinal fusion. In some cases our least invasive procedures were as effective as traditional spinal surgery in reducing painful conditions without spinal fusion. Least invasive procedures cause less pain and less trauma to the muscles supporting your back.

The Endoscopic Advantages Vs. Traditional Spinal Surgery and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery:

  • Utilizes a HD camera coupled to an endoscope which provides the spine surgeon a superior view to that of traditional surgical techniques
  • Less than a 1/2 inch incision minimizes potential skin scarring
  • No muscle or tissue tearing thus less scar tissue and preserve spinal mobility
  • Less post-operative pain and need for narcotic medicines
  • Less recovery time needed
  • Return to work sooner – as early as one week (under some restriction for lifting weight and certain physical activities)

What Types of Conditions Does Endoscopic Procedures Treat?

  • Arthritis and Bone Spurs of the Spine
  • Bulging Disc
  • Discogenic Back Pain
  • Herniated Disc
  • Failed Back Surgery
  • Foraminal Stenosis (Narrowing of the spinal canal)
  • Sciatica
  • Radiculitis or Radiculopathy
  • Chronic Facet Disease (Back spasms and pain when leaning back)

Types of Endoscopic Procedures:

  • Transforaminal Endoscopic Discectomy – Endoscopic Discectomy is one of the least invasive procedures offered that relieves pain from herniated bulging, protruded, and extruded disc.
  • Endoscopic Foraminalplasty – The endoscopic foraminalplasty is one of the least invasive procedures used to relieve pressure on the exiting nerve or spinal cord, caused by herniated disc, bone spurs and scar tissue.
  • Endoscopic Rhizotomy – The Endoscopic Rhizotomy is a least invasive procedure done outpatient to help patients suffering from chronic back pain and muscle spasms.
  • Interlaminer Endoscopic Discectomy – is the least invasive procedure offered that relieves pain from herniated bulging, protruded, and extruded disc. A similar approach to the traditional microdiscectomy, that uses an incision less than ½ inch. This causes less pain and scarring while still providing excellent visualization for the surgeon.
