Mind-body medicine for breast cancer
Breast cancer patients often struggle emotionally with the disease and its treatment. You may feel anxious, depressed, angry or fearful. Women in particular often struggle with hair loss, lack of intimacy and sexual identity issues. All of these stresses can impact your immune system, digestion, sleep, concentration and personal relationships.
Our mind-body medicine team offers breast cancer counseling, support groups, and stress management throughout your breast cancer treatment. Once you return home, we can connect you with qualified practitioners, counselors and breast cancer support groups in your area.
We also recognize that breast cancer patients are likely concerned about the well-being of their loved ones. All the services of the mind-body team are also available to your caregivers and family members.
Therapeutic massage can be helpful in relieving stress and anxiety as well as easing muscle tension. Our massage therapists provide modified, gentle massage techniques in order to work safely with the effects of breast cancer and cancer treatment. The goal is to provide relaxation and stress management to help our patients reconnect body and mind through a caring and supportive touch. Sessions may be provided before, during, or after already scheduled appointments. Sessions are approximately 10 to 30 minutes.
Massage benefits can include reduced pain and fatigue, decreased anxiety, less nausea, improved sleep, enhanced body image, and a greater sense of well-being.
